Puerto Caicedo
Writing Contest
In May 2016 we traveled to Puerto Caicedo with the aim of carrying out a writing contest at the José Antonio Galán Educational Institution.
The contest consisted of writing an essay in which they had to answer the question “Why is an opportunity to learn important to me?”. It was aimed at grades 9, 10 and 11 and was presented to approximately 100 students, of which 40 were selected. The prize for the winner of the contest was a $1,000 scholarship for the first semester tuition from the university of your choice. Through this activity we seek to encourage creative writing and generate interest in it, taking into account criteria such as originality, creativity, level of description, realism and spelling.
The winner was Amy Tatiana López from grade 10, who is currently studying 7 semester of social communication at the University of Santiago de Cali. Below we share a snippet of the winning essay:
“For me an opportunity to learn is very important because I have not had easy experiences or an easy life, it would not be correct to say that I have everything; I remember very well when I was not a good student, at the age of 13 I did not know what to do with myself, I did not know what I was born for, I did not find meaning in life. And although I know that not everything is a path of roses, I will do my best and I will impossible to make my dreams come true, my secret is to trust myself”.
